The DapoGo OEM Process: 6 Steps From Idea to Production

The rate card sets out six steps: enquiry, OEM consultation, R&D quotation, R&D sample, approval & pilot batch, and full production. See the DapoGo OEM process for what to prepare at each stage.

Step 1: Enquiry & product details

You prepare: the product type, target market, preferred packaging size, expected quantity and target timeline. Explain whether you want to use an existing DapoGo formula or develop your own recipe. These details help us identify what needs to be assessed during consultation and which development option is relevant to your product.

Step 2: OEM consultation

We do: review product suitability, the RTE or retort format, packaging options and next steps. For a format comparison, see retort vs frozen vs vacuum. Consultation costs RM250 for a 45–60 minute session, deductible from the R&D fee if you proceed within 7 days. DapoGo’s stated consultation-stage timing is 1–2 days; this is separate from the length of the session.

Step 3: R&D quotation

You approve: the development scope, R&D fee and payment terms before sampling begins. Private Label starts from RM1,500 / SKU, Custom R&D Retort Sample from RM3,500 / SKU, and Complex Product Development from RM5,000 / SKU. Read the OEM rate card and cost breakdown for the scope and exclusions.

Step 4: R&D sample & taste testing

We do: formulation trials, sample pouches, retort trials and basic costing. You assess the taste after retort processing and give feedback, so the decision reflects the processed product rather than just the food before processing. Sampling and taste testing take around 2 weeks, with up to three recipe revisions before the specification is finalised. Samples are for evaluation only, not for sale; the R&D fee is non-refundable.

Step 5: Approval & pilot batch

You approve: taste, fill weight, packaging and the production price. The pilot batch has an MOQ of 300–500 pouches / SKU. Quantity and cost are confirmed for your product; a pilot batch has a higher unit cost. These decisions establish the agreed specification before full production. If you need a smaller trial, discuss it separately and obtain confirmation in the quotation.

Step 6: Full production

Production starts after the deposit, material readiness and final artwork approval. The MOQ starts from 1,000 pouches / SKU, subject to product type and packaging. DapoGo’s stated production-stage timing is 1–2 months. Payment is 70% deposit and the remaining 30% before delivery or stock release. Confirm the delivery address and arrangements alongside the quotation so both parties are clear about the handover of finished goods.

What should your budget include?

The development fee is separate from the production price per pouch. The actual production price is confirmed after R&D and costing. Artwork, lab testing, nutrition facts, barcode and halal application are excluded unless stated. Check the written scope before agreeing so you know what is included, what you need to supply and which additional costs still need confirmation.

My recipe is confidential — is it safe?

Your recipe stays yours. Confidentiality terms can be discussed at consultation, before you disclose anything.

What if my recipe isn’t final yet?

Come with what you have. The sampling phase exists to refine it — but the core of the taste has to come from you, because you know your customers.

Can I start with a small first order?

The OEM rate card sets a pilot-batch MOQ of 300–500 pouches per SKU and full production from 1,000 pouches per SKU, subject to product type and packaging. If you need a smaller trial, discuss its scope and quantity at consultation; it needs separate confirmation in your quotation.
